Indium(III) iodide(InI3)

Indium(III) iodide(InI3)

Stable at room temperature and pressure

Avoid moisture/moisture of materials.

X-ray powder diffraction and vibrational (ir and Raman) spectra indicate that InI3(like AlI3 and GaI3) is a dimer in solid and melt states, while vapor is a monomer. The pressure induced phase transition in InI3 has been studied by quadrupole resonance spectroscopy of indium. Exchange rates of halogens with alkyl iodides have been studied using labeled InI3, with InI3+PrI(iodopropane) reaction being the fastest (100% in 1min at 22℃). InI3 forms a considerable number of complexes with O, S, N and P coordination atoms.

Product Feature:

InI3 can be purified by sublimation or zone melting. The melt is dark brown, and above 300℃, the molten InI3 is decomposed significantly.

Application and After-Sales Service:

Used in the synthesis

Indium is dissolved in a solution of reflux iodine (excess 5%) of CS2. Light yellow triiodide crystals (about 80% yield) can be precipitated when the concentrated solution is cooled. InI3 can also be prepared by heating indium and iodine vapors at 150 ~ 200℃ in air saturated with carbon dioxide. It is highly hygroscopic and soluble in water
